So I went to the valley to buy some famous John Kelly Chocolates, and upon reaching my destination I realized it was sold in the cutest little market I had seen, with the nicest salesperson I have ever met. I quickly fell in love with this place and spent quite some time in there just looking around. The Village Gourmet is a nice little market with a great selection of wine, cheese and much much more. If you’re a cheese lover like me you should definitely check this place out. They also offer a great variety of chocolates from across the globe. So to sum it up, a trip for chocolate turned into a discovery of one of my favorite new markets.

If you’re an Entourage fan, then you’ve definitely caught Urth Caffé on several episodes. Not only is Urth a popular shooting location for the show, it’s one of my favorite places to eat. What I love about Urth Caffé is the freshness in their food and their all organic coffee menu. They have their own brand of organic grown coffee, which is delicious. Actually, everything I’ve had at Urth Caffé is amazing. And if you’re a boba fan, make sure to try their ice blended organic green tea boba. It’s pretty much the reason I go here. Make sure you stop by Urth Caffé in one of its four locations (West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Downtown)…YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!

Pesto sauce is great for just about anything and so so so simple to make. Rather then going out and buying some, I decided to make my own sauce. This is a recipe that I found from Foodnetwork.com and it tastes delicious...
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 cloves of garlic coarsely chopped
2 cups grated (4 ounces) asiago cheese
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 ounces baby spinach
3 ounces arugula
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
P.S. if you want to spice it up a bit you can add a jalapeno pepper to the mixture. You can also use Parmesan cheese instead of asiago if you'd like to. There are various ways of making pesto, you can always experiment and find the one that's best for you.
In a food processor combine the walnuts, garlic, cheese, salt and pepper. Process until the mixture is smooth. Add the spinach and the arugula and process until blended. With the machine running gradually add the olive oil. And you're done!!
Now you're ready to pour the pesto over pasta, over grilled chicken, over salad, or you can even make a grilled chicken pesto sandwich like I did. Yuuummm to the max!!

Macaron's (not the chewy coconut dessert that usually comes to mind) are my new favorite dessert. I love love love these cute little sandwich cookies. A famous French sandwich cookie, the macaron is a cream filled cookie that's very light and delightful. So I went on the hunt for the perfect macaron, and came across 'lette-a macaron shop known for its great tasting cookies. 'Lette has been offering fresh, hand-made (let's not forget DELICIOUS) macarons since 2007. This shop was opened with the collaboration of owner Paulette Koumetz and French pastry chef Christophe Michalak. They offer a variety of flavors such as:
earl grey tea
sweet wedding almond
Previously located only in Beverly Hills, 'lette's second location opened only 3 weeks ago in Pasadena just off of Fair Oaks. Next time you're in Pasadena, make sure make a stop at 'lette!!!
I can’t live without dessert…especially red velvet cupcakes. So I decided to make some myself. The recipe I found is from Food Network and tastes yummy. Here it is:
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
2 large eggs, room temperature
2 tablespoons red food coloring
1 teaspoon white distilled vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the cream cheese frosting:
1 pound cream cheese, softened
2 sticks butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
Chopped pecans and/or fresh strawberries or raspberries for garnish
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line 2 (12-cup) muffin pans with cupcake papers.
In a medium mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa. In a large bowl gently beat together the oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vinegar, and vanilla with a handheld electric mixer. Add the sifted dry ingredients to the wet and mix until smooth and thoroughly combined.
Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake tins about 2/3 filled. Bake in oven for about 20 to 22 minutes. Test the cupcakes with a toothpick for doneness. Remove from oven and cool completely before frosting.
For the cream cheese frosting:
In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter and vanilla together until smooth. Add the sugar and on low speed, beat until incorporated. Increase the speed to high and mix until very light and fluffy. After frosting the cupcakes, garnish with chopped pecans and/or fresh raspberry or strawberry.
Now time to enjoy these delicious cupcakes!!
